This is from a series of shots (you can see them on my Flickr - click on 'my photos' in the menu bar) of a house around the corner from mine being demolished. They started this morning and will be finished by lunchtime. Strange to think that all the effort and time which goes into building a home can be wiped out in a matter of hours....

I flew to Canberra over the Australia Day weekend to see my extended family - my aunt, my almost-uncle, my step-grandmother and my grandfather. I wanted Olive and Rose to meet some of the rest of their family and hopefully start to forge the kind of bond that I have with my Canberra clan. It was lovely to see the girls interact with their aunty and great-grandparents.

However I was surprised to discover that it was me who, I am sure, found the trip more rewarding. I had forgotten how warm and enveloping it is to sit around the dinner table with people who have known you all of your life. Differences of opinion and wildly different life experiences don't seem to matter that much at such times. I particularly enjoyed seeing grandfather John, a strong, just and determined man. I took this portrait of him and hope that these qualities shine through.
