Anatomy of a birthday

Since moving here in 2005 we've made some good friends. We were fortunate to cross paths with Sally and Gavin, who live around the corner with their two girls, and with Olivia, who lives in the next suburb with her daughter and son. We have the sort of friendship which means we can drop our children with another family while we do our shopping or visit the doctor, or suggest a communal feed at the end of a long and tiring day. They're like an extended family. We love it!

Today was a highlight for us all - the youngest of the communal brood, Hannah, turned 1. Here she is with her dad Gavin and her mum Sally.

And here's the other family, Olivia with Callan and Charli.

Hannah's party started with conversation and games.

Then it was present time!

But you have to learn to hang on to them...

Nearly 5 and it was time to light the barbie... a time when adults come into their own...

and the results for once seem acceptable.

For most, anyway.

Then it was on to that other staple of children's parties - fairy bread. The chippolatas might have been tasty but nothing beats super fine white flour with sprinkles!

There was however a gesture towards healthy eating -

but then, the cake...

A happy customer indeed. Happy birthday Hannah! X
