Andrew Wilkie
Independent Candidate for Denison
Campaign Bulletin December 2009
www.andrewwilkie.org

Welcome to the December report on Andrew Wilkie's independent candidature for the seat of Denison at the State election expected in March 2010. You've received this email because you're either a supporter of Andrew's campaign or might have a particular interest in it. I'm sending these bulletins out every month, but if you don't want to receive them please reply to me (Kate Burton, Andrew's wife).

Media and events
Andrew has been busy since the last newsletter. Many of you would have seen the documentary 'The perfect whisetleblower' screened on SBS on 18 November. The program generated a strong and supportive response. If you'd like to see it please let us know and we can lend you our copy. Andrew also conducted a lengthy radio interview on Ultra 106.5 FM about the issues raised in the documentary.

The fundraiser at Smolt on 22 November was a big success. Thanks very much to Greg Barns, who introduced the event, and to Jo Matthews who organised it.

Andrew attended the Tasmanians for a Healthy Democracy forum on power-sharing on 24 November. He also addressed the TASCOSS multicultural issues forum on 26 November and attended TASCOSS's election debate on 1 December.

Andrew has been involved in the problems being experienced by two Salamanca Arts Centre tenants and this was recognised in an article in The Mercury on 4 December.

On 6 December Andrew was interviewed on local ABC radio regarding telling the truth.

An opinion piece written by Andrew on Afghanistan was published in The Examiner on 11 December. This is available at http://tasmaniantimes.com/index.php?/weblog/article/the-dreadful-dilemma-of-afghanistan/

How you can help
The campaign needs quite a bit more money to ensure Andrew maintains a strong profile. Billboards, leaflets, newspaper advertising and the like are unbelievably expensive. So if you can help with a donation please contact us.

'Kitchen cabinets' are a great way to let your friends and acquaintances know about Andrew and what he stands for. Just invite people you know to your house to meet Andrew over a drink/dinner/bbq - and pass the hat around to raise money for the campaign.

Letterboxing is another effective way of getting Andrew's message out there. If you enjoy stretching your legs and would like to deliver Andrew's election leaflets please let us know.

If you have nomination forms please return them to the shop (Rugs & Kilims, 208 Elizabeth Street North Hobart). Don't worry if they aren't complete - we will have have enough names to ensure Andrew appears as a 'Grouped Independent' on the ballot paper. Thanks to everyone who has collected signatures!

We now have election posters available to be put up in people's front yards and other sites. Please contact us if you think you have a site which will ensure Andrew's poster is seen by as many people as possible.

One of the easiest ways you can give the campaign a boost is to spread the word - tell your friends, family and colleagues about Andrew and the campaign, and feel free to forward this email. And drop into the shop to pick up a bundle of leaflets to hand to your friends and acquaintances.

Thank you for your support. We hope you all have a safe and happy festive season.

If you have been forwarded this bulletin from a friend and would like to receive it directly, email us and we'll add you to the list.
